I purchased this 4 door Fairmont late last year to build a sleeper. After searching for the perfect drivetrain, I finally finished the swap.
To those that don’t know, the Fairmont was the first Fox Body, and it was introduced in 1978. 1983 is the last year of the Fairmont before it was replaced by the Tempo in 1984.
Since it is a Fox Body, a lot of parts interchange with the Mustang.
This car started life with a 3.3 Thrift master 6 cylinder, C5 transmission, and 7.5 rear end.
I have since swapped the engine, transmission, front suspension and K-member from a 1985 Ford Mustang GT, and rear end from a 1990 Ford Mustang GT.
It has an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, Holley Street Avenger 4V carburetor, Crane 1993-1995 Cobra Roller Rockers, Ford Racing tall valve covers, Ford Racing air cleaner, Ford Racing spark plug wires, Mac headers, H-pipe, and Flow master cat-back exhaust.
I would classify this as a daily driver that you could take to the strip. It’s far from perfect, but has the right look for a sleeper.
With a little elbow grease and tinkering, I wouldn’t hesitate to drive this car cross country.
I really hate to sell this, but things have came up, and I need the cash.
