1979 Mercury Zephyr Z7 sport coupe with factory V8 (302) and automatic. Same as Ford Fairmont Futura coupe.
All original and unmolested, no wrecks, no frame rust. Local Greenville SC car since new. It had sat for a long time. 63,988 miles which I believe to be correct, judging by little to no wear on steering wheel, door panel, and seat. The seat has obvious sun damage but very little wear. The title says exempt due to age of car. The car will run as long as you fill the bowl on the carb. I have installed a new fuel tank, new tanks straps, new sending unit, new rubber lines, new fuel pump, filter, and a rebuilt carb. I think there is a problem with the eccentric piece that activates the fuel pump. Due to current circumstances, I don’t have time to remove the timing cover to investigate further – that’s why I’ve decided to sell.
You can hear the car run. I’ve had the car for a little over a year. The car also has all new brake hoses and a new master cylinder. Surface rust where vinyl top was removed and some on hood, but minor and easily sandable. Rust hole at bottom of left quarter behind tire. There’s another hole on the A pillar on the right side due to having a vinyl top. The only other rust is bottom front of RH fender, probably from a leaky battery. Dent in RH door and left rear quarter (minor). Transmission is said to shift smooth from former owner. Tires hold air but aren’t suitable for driving. No battery included.
I can send additional photos on request, could only load 10 here. Listed under parts so I could list it as a Zephyr – option not available as a car listing. All glass is good, interior plastics are good. Has RARE power windows – motors work but the plastic glass brackets are likely rotted, windows will not go up/down. Exhaust has been removed due to converter rot that stopped up the muffler. I still have the pieces. Has desirable dual chrome mirrors.
Clear SC title IN MY NAME. Only trying to get what I have tied up in the car. If you are buying the car for racing purposes and don’t need the new gas tank and sending unit, I will remove those and take $200 off the price. NO TRADE OFFERS, please.
