1978 Mercury Zephyr Z7 This model is the first year of the “Fox Body” platform. The Ford Fairmont was the same car as the Zephyr.
The next year 1979 saw the introduction of the Fox Body Mustang. Though the Mustang was 4 inches shorter in wheelbase it was for most parts the same car. What’s odd is that even though 4 inches longer, the Zephyr/Fairmont was a couple hundred pounds lighter(2900 lbs with a 302 & c4) than most mustang GTs.
The original 302, 8 inch rear-end and transmission have been replaced with a supercharged roller 5.0 ho, T5 5 speed trans. and a posi 8.8″ rear-end with 373 gears. Fuel cell, battery in trunk, electric fuel pump, nice stereo system. A 1991 Mustang GT was the doner. It was changed from EFI to blow thru carb set-up a couple of years ago.
It is very quick, drives and handles as it should and trans was rebuilt with “Z-Spec” parts. The body has never had rust. This is the original paint other than the bumpers. The care has non-functional AC. Leave your # with reply for prompt response.
